Boston Social Forum 2004

5,000+ participants, 550+ events, 3 days

About

Inspired by the World Social Forum, starting in November 2002, organizers in Boston began work on the first social forum in the United States to use the methodology of the World Social Forum. The event was held in July 2004 over 3 days and ran in tandem with the activism engaging and challenging the Democratic National Convention being held in the city at the same time.

This site is being updated to provide a record for the Boston Social Forum.

History

The celebrated historian David Green (UMass Boston) compiled a chronology of events, "A People's History of Boston and Massachusetts" for the BSF. We published it on June 20, 2004. At the time, the chronology did not extend the conversation to before the European invasion.
