| The World Social Forum (WSF) burst onto the global progressive scene in January 2001 with a 20,000-person happening in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Its mandate was to link up and strengthen disparate social movements against neoliberalism and militarism around the world by creating an open space for dialogue and debate, educating and strategizing, and music and performance. Under the banner "Another World is Possible," the event was pointedly held opposite the annual corporate love-fest in Davos, Switzerland, the World Economic Forum. Over the three days, more than 5,000 people attended and 575 workshops were hosted!

Writing in the San Francisco Bay View (7/29/04), hip hop activist Davey D praised the BSF noting that, "Hip Hop music, culture and activism was definitely respected during the Boston Social Forum."

Each day of the BSF features a major convocation will be held in the Gymnasium. Major speakers, presenting their own views, have been asked to speak to current challenges and to help inspire a vision for another world. Children will be engaged in activities relevant to BSF programs.
