June 8, 2004 Press Release Boston Social Forum Film Series Begins 6/22
The Boston Social Forum (BSF) will showcase the progressive movement in New England from July 23-25, 2004 at the University of Massachusetts at Boston—the weekend just before the Democratic National Convention. The event is being organized by a coalition of over 70 grassroots community organizations, non-profits, unions, and religious denominations.
Before & during the BSF, the BSF Film Series will screen progressive films made locally and throughout the world. "The Corporation," "Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land," and "A Panther in Africa" are a few examples of films that will cover topics as broad as the forum itself. For more info on showings at MFA, Coolidge Corner Theatre, The Milky Way, The Brattle Theater and 38 Cameron during June & July, go to the BSF website: www.bostonsocialforum.org.
The BSF will be a political, cultural and social event with a wide variety of activities including over 300 workshops and panels in 35 subject area “tracks,” a film series, a hip-hop conference, art, music and theatre.
A number of prominent activists, artists and celebrities have already signed up to appear at the BSF. These include Danny Glover, Harry Belafonte, Angela Davis, Billy Bragg, Dennis Brutus, Jim Hightower and Sonia Sanchez. Additional names are being added constantly.
